Welcome to Island Christian Academy

We believe that Island Christian Academy is something
truly special – a Christian school dedicated to whole-child education,
where each student is empowered to flourish…

Welcome from
Our Leadership

Welcome to Island Christian Academy! We believe that IslandCA is something truly special – a Christian school dedicated to whole-child education, where each student is empowered to flourish academically, physically, socially, and spiritually, located in the heart of Hong Kong Island.

We are excited about our students’ growth: not only their strong academic achievements and their high performance in independent assessments; but also their development into kind and generous members of our community who delight in learning from each other’s different cultural backgrounds, and who consistently support and encourage one another.

Since opening in 2012, IslandCA has strived to develop with excellence, building on Generations Christian Education’s over 30 years of experience in Hong Kong and the Chinese YMCA of Hong Kong’s more than a century of educational ministry. We are proud to be Hong Kong’s first IPC Accredited School and an accredited member of the Council of International Schools.

We invite you to share in the diverse, nurturing, and joyful community that we are blessed with at Island Christian Academy. Our team looks forward, with anticipation, to facilitating and celebrating the growth of your child(ren) – developing a growth mindset and growing academically, physically, spiritually, and socially. This, of course, is in partnership with you as parents/guardians. We hope that you enjoy learning more about us on this website, and we welcome you to visit us in person on one of our school tours.

Blessings,

Jon Keelty (Principal), Charlotte Owen (Vice Principal), Joy Penner (Vice Principal), and Eleanor Cowling (Learning Leader)

VISION

So the next generation would know God, even the children yet to be born, and they in turn would tell their children. Then they will put their trust in God and will not forget his deeds but will keep his commands. (Psalm 78:6-7)

MISSION

Island Christian Academy’s mission is…

  • To educate the whole child in a nurturing, vibrant and international community.
  • To cultivate individuals of character, compassion, courage and competence.
  • To inspire the next generations to be a global people of Christian faith, a people serving others.

VALUES

CHRIST CENTRED

(John 15:1)

That in all we do and say, we will embody the mission and ministry of Christ; who through the constant messages of love, grace and truth, inspired and transformed those around him to seek excellence.

LOVING

(1 Cor 13:7)

That we will love each other deeply, being motivated to serve all people, and be mindful of their interests and concerns. Love comes from God. It is more than mere feeling, it is a determination to empathise with others and act for their good. It is self-sacrificing and unconditional.

COMMUNITY

(Acts 4:31-32)

We will reflect the essence of community, where acceptance and respect are our standards, in light of God’s love and truth. We will love and care for each other, tolerating our differences and guiding each other towards all truth, being mindful that God first loved each of us and desires us to be in relationship.

EXCELLENCE

(Phil 4:8)

Through our collective actions and thoughts, we will strive for what is excellent. We will seek to do our best and try our hardest, not for self-promotion or praise, but that in our doing so we all reach and reflect the best standards to the world around us.

SERVICE

(Eph 6:7)

As true leaders we will serve, beginning with a self-denying acceptance of the call to serve others. Imitating Jesus, we will submit to God in faithful expectation, as He then equips us to use our talents and skills creatively to serve others.

HOPE

(Isa 40:31, Lam 3:25)

We will demonstrate that our hope is in God, He enables us to be courageous, assured and able to persevere. Hope is the end result of displaying perseverance. Confidence in the future comes from a person, Jesus, the “living hope”.

JOY

(Neh 8:10)

Joy is a deep sense of delight, largely unseen, which remains regardless of circumstances. It is based on our hope in Jesus Christ.

Shared Vision

Building on our Vision, Mission, Motto, and Values, Island Christian Academy has developed the following Shared Vision for our Students which informs our day-to-day approach to guiding our students’ development.

The Story of
Island Christian Academy

Island Christian Academy opened its doors in 2012, and has grown to become a highly respected member of Hong Kong’s educational sector. The school is known for its strong sense of community, caring environment, and high quality learning. It has been recognised for excellence in implementing the International Primary Curriculum, being awarded accreditation in 2016 after just four years of operation.

Island Christian Academy has strong roots in Hong Kong, being a collaboration between Generations Christian Education, established for over 30 years; and the Chinese YMCA of Hong Kong, which has been a part of Hong Kong’s community sector since 1901 and has been present on Bridges Street since 1918. The historic 70 Bridges Street school site dates back to 1912, when it was originally a CYMCAHK youth hostel. Today, remnants of the original stone can still be seen in Island Christian Academy’s first aid room on the ground floor.

For more information, please visit the websites of Generations Christian Education or the Chinese YMCA of Hong Kong.

Sponsoring Body

The Chinese YMCA of Hong Kong was founded in 1901, with education ministries being a core part of its identity since 1908. The CYMCAHK is committed to the belief that children need to grow in spirit, mind, and body. The YMCA logo of a balanced triangle is a constant reminder that a balance of all three is vital to healthy living, and the organisation’s motto “To Serve, Not To Be Served” reminds us of the mission of Jesus, who “did not come to be served. Instead, he came to serve others” (Mark 10:45).
