Message from the Chairman

What a year it has been! Our goal this year was to build community and focus on making tangible actions that reflect God’s heart and His call to action.

In Term 1, our big celebration was the Christmas Fair! The theme was “Love in Action” and for the very first time, we invited our neighbouring school, Sun Wui Commercial Society School (SWCSS) to join us in the festivities. The entire school community banded together to sponsor the children and their families to be our guests. Sadly, at the last moment, SWCSS informed us of a school-wide chicken pox outbreak and could no longer participate.

Yet it opened the opportunity for Youth With A Mission (YWAM) that performed for our children to also do a special program for SWCSS students on their own campus. We are so thankful YWAM partnered with us to display God’s beauty through the performing arts. Their performances brought much laughter and joy to not just our own event, but also to the school next door. Sixty-eight kids heard the gospel and accepted Jesus as a result! Now THAT was worth celebrating this Christmas!

It is with a grateful and a happy heart that we navigated through this unprecedented year of HK demonstrations and COVID-19 with our principal, Mr. Keelty in the lead. One of our most memorable moments was singing with the entire PTA group as he led worship during our first Annual General Meeting. It was a great privilege to honour God together as we united to pray about how to serve our community.

We have just returned for our final month of school after almost 4 months of school closure. Even though it was a difficult and challenging time, we are also immensely thankful because it provided an opportunity for the PTA to bless SWCSS with five iPads, so that the children who didn’t have access to devices at home could still continue their learning online.

We prayed for God to show us a “new” normal as we transitioned successfully back to school. What a time to train our children to be citizens that shines a different light. “You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden.” Matthew 5:14.

As the Executive Director of Generations Christian Education, Ms. Gail Maidment shared about how it all began:

“Over 26 years ago, a small team asked God how they could help the children of Hong Kong.

The Lord replied with Psalm 78:6-7. ‘So the next generation might know them— even the children not yet born— and they in turn will teach their own children. So each generation should set its hope anew on God, not forgetting his glorious miracles and obeying his commands.’”

My own children have walked through the doors of this school for the last 5 years standing on the shoulders of prayer warriors that courageously walked in their calling to starting a new Christian primary school 8 years ago. On May 28th and 29th, 2020, we did a prayer walk around our school to reinforce the foundations laid by the commitment of loyal, faithful, and God-honouring educators who prayed before us.

Nestled in the skyscrapers, we have a school that is committed to raising generations of world changers!

It was an honour to serve on this PTA committee with you this academic year, thank you all for your tireless contributions.

Blessings,

Bernice Wall (Chairman of PTA 2019-2020)
