Principal and Staff
Debbie Middleton is the Principal of Island Christian Academy. She was previously principal for over six years at Maranatha Christian School, in New Zealand, her home country; during that time she led the school to achieve the highest level of review awarded by the NZ Education Review Office, as well as steering the school into the Enviroschool programme, and through all levels up to Green/Gold. She also oversaw some substantial development and remodelling of the school campus. Debbie’s teaching experience includes work as a science and technology advisor and in teacher education, as well as teaching positions in New Zealand and England and at international schools in Ethiopia, Pakistan and Burma, where International Schools Services recruited her as a member of the start-up team for a new international school. In several of these positions she has led the school through its accreditation and review processes.
Debbie has a BSc. from Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand, where she also gained her Diploma in Teaching and PGCES. She is also MSc.(Sci.Ed.) from Curtin University in Australia.
Debbie is an experienced and enthusiastic traveller, having trekked, rafted and kayaked in many parts of the globe.
Island Christian Academy has been blessed with quality, professional staff members, who embody the practice of our educational philosophy. Our staff represents multiple countries of origin, offering international perspectives that enrich the education experience of our students. All teaching staff are trained for primary level education and registered with Hong Kong Government’s accreditation body.
