Principal’s Message Vol.74 – Oct 2016

Dear IslandCA Community, 你好!

Welcome back for the second half of term one. I trust you all had a great break and enjoyed quality time with your child(ren), our wonderful students.

I was out of school the first couple of days this week, attending a workshop; however, being back at school the last couple of days I can see that classes, teachers and students have settled back to routines, are happily engaged in their classes- essentially back to normal, despite the weather.

Much has happened since the last newsletter; including Parent Teacher Conferences, International Middle years Curriculum (IMYC) coffee mornings and Year 5 Camp. Thank you to all the parents who attended the Parent Teacher Conferences. The teachers really appreciated your taking the time to come and discuss your child(ren). Thank you also to those who attended IMYC coffee mornings. If you missed attending one, there is a further opportunity on October 31st. For more details read further on in the newsletter. The Year 5 students’ camp on the CYMCA Island of Wong Yi Chau was a great success. Students learned many personal goals and were stretched beyond their comfort zone in a beautiful environment close to nature. See photos and article further on in the newsletter.

The Chinese Young Men’s Christian Association of Hong Kong (CYMCA) is celebrating its 115th anniversary this year. The Generations Christian Education Executive Director (Gail Maidment) and I attended the thanksgiving and banquet celebration during the mid term break. One of the speakers was Carrie Lam. We were introduced to Eddie Ng the Secretary for Education. At least a couple of our parents were in attendance as well – Philip Pang (as a representative of the Generations board) and Dr David Chung (as Undersecretary for Innovation and Technology. CYMCA is Island Christian Academy’s sponsoring body and owns the school property, while Generations Christian Education is IslandCA’s governing/managing body.

We look forward to the action packed second quarter of this term and seeing the growth in our students.

God Bless You,
Debbie Middleton, Principal
